Te Oranga ki Ōtākou

Te Oranga ki Ōtākou (TOKŌ) is a student led association for Māori Medical Students at Ōtākou Whakaihu Waka, Otago University.

We operate under Te Oranga, which is our National Māori Medical Students’ Association. Established in 1999, we are guided by the whakataukī ‘kia toha I te ora’. We provide academic and pastoral support as well as advocate for our Māori students.

TOKŌ runs social and extracurricular events to help foster connections between tauira, with our most notable kaupapa being our annual Māori Med Wānanga (Freshers Hui) where whakawhanaungatanga is a core value. Throughout each year, we aim to provide tauira with opportunities for discovery, inspiration, reflection, and professional and personal development.

As well as this, provide platforms for tauira to explore their passions and further develop their identity both within the medical world and Te Ao Māori. Our main goal is to ensure that Māori Medical Students at Otago feel uplifted and well supported throughout their time at medical school.
